Itinerary:

Day 1 - 7.30 am. pickup from your hotel in Adelaide, and travel North through the beautiful Clare Valley wine region, where we stop for morning tea, and the historic Ghan Railway township of Quorn for lunch, then its on to Hawker the Hub of the Flinders Ranges and the gateway to the Outback before travelling through the Moralana Scenic Drive, one of the best in the Flinders Ranges. Check into accommodation at Wilpena Pound Resort.

Day 2 - 8.30 am. After breakfast, there is an option to enjoy an unforgettable 30-minute Scenic Flight around Wilpena Pound (at own cost) . We then continue our Journey to Arkaroola as we travel through the heart of the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park via Bunyeroo Valley & Gorge, spectacular Brachina Gorge, the picturesque Parachilna Gorge & on to the historic copper mining town of Blinman for lunch. Then it’s on to Arkaroola with a stop for a 4WD trek into Chambers Gorge, where you can view the gallery of ancient Aboriginal Rock Engravings. Continue on into the Gammon Ranges National Park and the Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary Resort. Overnight at Arkaroola with dinner in the Native Paine Restaurant.

Day 3: To "Cooper Creek" country today via the Mt Hopeless Road to join the Strzelecki Track - view the Dingo Fence - Overnight at Innamincka Hotel - Motel Rooms.

Day 4: Visit "Coongie Lakes” World Heritage and Ramsar listed wetland area for some bird spotting & history, visit Kings marker and stay overnight at Innamincka

Day 5: Travel to Birdsville - visit the Burke & Wills Dig Tree and Cordillo Downs Shearing shed, where up to 80,000 sheep were shorn by shearers who rode their bicycles from Farina on the old Ghan Railway, crossing over the Cobbler and Sturts Stony deserts to get there and then back again afterwards! Overnight at the Birdsville Hotel or Cabins - depending on availability.

Day 6: We visit Big Red (the largest sand dune on the eastern edge of in the Simpson Desert). We spend the morning travelling in a westerly direction into the Simpson Desert as far as the usually dry Eyre Creek - for picnic lunch under the shade of an old Coolabah Tree. We return to Birdsville for the afternoon which is free time to walk and explore the inland oasis of Birdsville. Overnight at Birdsville.

Day 7: After breakfast we head south down the famous "Birdsville Track". Taking the 'Inside track' if open - this was the original track used by Drovers with large mobs of cattle, to Mungerannie Hotel - One of the most isolated in Australia. View the warm artesian water hole, a great area for some bird watching. Afternoon break at Marree - old Ghan Railway town - Overnight at Outback Resort in Leigh Creek and enjoy a wonderful outback sunset.

Day 8: Today we head for Adelaide - on the way we view the western side of Wilpena pound - visit Hawker & Quorn to historic Melrose the first town in the Flinders Ranges. We pass through Laura before joining Highway 1 onto Adelaide late afternoon.
