Itinerary:                     (click here for route map pdf)

Day 1: Adelaide to Wilpena Pound via Clare Valley, Quorn, Hawker (overnight at Wilpena Pound Resort)

Day 2: Wilpena to Arkaroola - via the bunyeroo and Brachina Gorges, Parachilna, Blinman and Chambers Gorge (overnight at Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary)

Day 3: Arkaroola Ridgetop Tour in the morning & 4wd to waterholes in afternoon (overnight at Arkaroola)

Day 4: Arkaroola to Innamincka via the Mount Hopeless track to join up with the Strzelecki Track (overnight at Innamincka Hotel)

Day 5: Visit "Coongie Lakes” World Heritage and Ramsar listed wetland area for some bird spotting & history, visit Kings marker and stay overnight at Innamincka

Day 6: Travel to Birdsville - visit the Burke & Wills Dig Tree and Cordillo Downs Shearing shed, where up to 80,000 sheep were shorn by shearers who rode their bicycles from Farina on the old Ghan Railway, crossing over the Cobbler and Sturts Stony deserts to get there and then back again afterwards! Overnight at the Birdsville Hotel or Cabins - depending on availability.

Day 7: We visit Big Red (the largest sand dune on the eastern edge of in the Simpson Desert). We spend the morning travelling in a westerly direction into the Simpson Desert as far as the usually dry Eyre Creek - for picnic lunch under the shade of an old Coolabah Tree. We return to Birdsville for the afternoon which is free time to walk and explore the inland oasis of Birdsville. Overnight at Birdsville.

Day 8: A leisurely start and then head south down the famous "Birdsville Track". Taking the 'Inside track' if open - this was the original track used by Drovers with large mobs of cattle, to Mungerannie Hotel - One of the most isolated in Australia. Visit a warm artesian water hole, a great area for some bird watching. O/ night at Oasis Motel, Marree - cabins

Day 9: We travel from Marree to William Creek along the Oodnadatta track stopping at Lake Eyre South, Mound Springs and Old Ghan Railway Siding. Leave the Oodnadatta Track and travel out to the western access track of Lake Eyre North to Halligan Bay - arriving at William Creek at approx 5.30pm. Spend the night in the ensuit Pelican Cabins and a meal at the William Creek pub.

Day 10: This morning optional fly over Lake Eyre on a 60 minute Scenic Flight from William Creek at about 7.30am (at own cost). After the flight we travel to Adelaide - Take the Borefield Road to Port Augusta via Roxby Downs - destination Adelaide


Includes: 9 nights accommodation, 9 Dinners, 8 Cont. breakfasts, 10 Lunches (picnic style or Cafe/pub), 10 Morning teas
